Mountainland Association of Governments is a voluntary association of local governments in Utah, Wasatch and Summit Counties. Their Department of Aging and Family Services runs programs such as Meals on Wheels, caregiver support, and legal assistance for seniors.
Another service they offer is a community resource guide for senior citizens. This guide has listings for many of the services that senior citizens might need, including the contact information for 31 different Hospice agencies. Mountainland also has a caregiver program to “assist caregivers in their care of individuals 60 years of age and older who are unable to perform routine activities to care for themselves (Mountainland, 2006-2011).” As a service of this program they offer classes and support groups.
Support groups and classes are a great way to get information that is important for the care of your loved one. These groups also provide a circle of people who can relate to your concerns.
I would like to think that I am the only person who didn’t know about Mountainland and its services, but I’m probably not. If you are familiar with what they have to offer, please pass the word. If you are in need of these types of services give them a call. Many of these services are at little to no cost depending on need. Too many times we don’t find out about something until we are told. Please pass the word!
