What is Respite Care? Who Can I Call?

I am constantly aware of the incredible demands of caregivers and am a firm believer in Respite Care.  Respite Care is a type of vacation for the caregiver and even the one being cared for. Respite Care is when a trained professional provides the care needed while the caregiver is away. The amount of time for Respite Care can be as little as an hour or two or a week or two, depending on the needs of the caregiver

Respite Care can occur at home or in a facility and is generally paid for privately, meaning not covered by insurance. While on Hospice Services caregivers can take advantage of a respite option of up to five days per quarter where the agency will pay for the respite, usually a skilled nursing or assisted living facility. Prices vary depending on whether you choose private duty, in-home care or care in an assisted living facility or even a skilled nursing home.

Families can be assured that not only will their loved one be very well taken care of, they will have the opportunity to participate in fun activities during their stay.  It is not uncommon for your loved on to ask if they can continue to stay once you have come home!

Summertime brings many situations that respite Care could be utilized such as weddings, reunions and vacations.  Being prepared with options can make these times possible for you and your family.  Respite Care can be a big factor in avoiding caregiver burnout.

This week I will give you many option for Respite Care outside of the home and would love to hear your thoughts and/or experiences on any services you have tried.  The options I will give you are trusted partners with Freedom Home Health and Hospice and come with our highest recommendations for service.  Please let them know that Gena sent you;)

Orem and American Fork
You will find lovely, homelike accommodations in each of these buildings as well as staff that are compassionate, caring and very well trained.  Keep in mind, this is what they do EVERY day, caring for the elderly, providing the assistance they need and enjoying every minute of it.  Tasty meals, beautiful grounds and highly trained staff are just some of the highlights at Bel Aire. The American Fork site does have a memory care side but space is very limited for respite. Because space is limited you must call and reserve in advance by speaking with Cala or Jennifer @ 801-763-0622 for the American Fork Location or Darcy @ 801-221-5100 for the Orem Facility..

Art City Nursing and Rehab in Springville
Art City Nursing and Rehab is an older facility with a wonderful, caring staff, many who have worked there for years! It may fool you from the front as it looks like a small home, but as you enter you will find residents and staff bustling through their day.  This is an excellent choice if your loved one is a wanderer or has Dementia or Alzheimer's as it is a secure facility and has nursing staff on duty 24 hours each day. Todd Bramall is not only the owner, he is the Administrator and even gives family members his cell phone number to ask questions or if they have concerns.  Give him a call @ 801-367-9369.
